I am in need of some help in a matter. My yard guys broke my sl

I am in need of some help in a matter. My yard guys broke my slider, said they would pay. I gave them 4 estimates on July 10th, he said he will look them over. I haven't heard from him since. In mean time I put a down payment and have a copy for him to pay. The total is just under $1000.00. I only have phone numbers. I really don't want to claim on my insurance or go to court. Suggestions?
