"Images of America: Katy" from Arcadia Publishing
Waiting for our rep at the Fidelity office in Cinco Ranch, I saw this small picture-and-history book on a waiting room table. Within ten minutes, I knew I had to have this book. Hundreds of historic to modern photos with history in the form of lengthy captions. Old pictures of places and what they were originally, many of which are still here.
From the description on amazon.com: "Settlers coming to the Katy area in the mid-1800s found a cane-filled creek on the vast coastal prairie. The area became known as Cane Island. When the Missouri-Kansas-Texas (MKT) Railroad laid tracks in the 1890s, a stop 30 miles west of Houston was needed to refill the water tanks on steam engines..."
I've asked around, but neighbors were unaware of the book locally--or even its existence. Great addition to my Katy home library with "Passenger Trains of Texas: The Katy," which I picked up at the author's book signing a couple years ago. No kidding, I really recommend this to newcomers like myself (moved her from Houston in 2017) and Katy natives alike. Available in paper for $25 or hardback for $30 (any book worth keeping is worth hardback, right?)
