Thanksgiving Safety from the City of Katy
Be Safe This Thanksgiving & Be Fire Hazard Aware
The kitchen is the heart of the home, especially for the holidays. Here are some tips to prevent cooking fires and keep your family safe during your Thanksgiving activities:
-Stay in the kitchen when you are cooking on the stove top so you can keep an eye on the food.
-DO NOT LEAVE FRYERS UNATTENDED (and use a thawed turkey). Read more at

-Stay in the home when cooking your turkey, and check on it frequently.
-Keep children away from the stove. The stove will be hot and kids should stay three feet away. This also goes for hot food and liquids. The steam or splash from vegetables, gravy or coffee could cause serious burns.
-Keep matches and utility lighters out of the reach of children — up high in a locked cabinet.
-Keep flammable articles, such as tea towels away from stovetops, grills, etc.
Make sure your smoke alarms are working. Test them by pushing the test button.
Be safe & enjoy the holidays!!
