Public Works “Tip of the Week” -Keep Grass Clippings Out of the Streets

Loading Image...

Did you know… May is Motorcycle Awareness Month? The City of Katy Public Works would like to remind residents not to sweep or blow their grass into the streets. Not only is this a safety hazard for motorcyclists, but grass clippings laying in the street can be washed down the stormwater system creating many problems for their residents and the environment. Please sweep or blow your clippings back into the grass or bag/mulch your clippings for disposal.

Please go to www.cityofkaty.com/g overnment/city-depar tments/public-works/ helpful-informa for other Public Works “Tip of the Week” information!

For questions or concerns, call them at 281-391-4820 or email [email protected].

So true. I see many blowing the grass into the street. We blow it back into the mowed grass. But , might be a silly question, but why is it hazardous for motorcycles?
Thank you City of Katy for this great information.

Great reminder & explanation as to why grass, other debris, should not be blown onto our streets & into the gutters.

Too bad none of the "professional" yard people read here. I see them ALL THE TIME blowing grass clippings into the storm drains!!! Too bad there's not a hotline where one could report yard services company names or at least license plates of those who are making flooding a greater risk. Or is there not even a law against putting trash and yard clippings into the storm drains?
