The Katy Fire Department is reminding residents to look before you lock! Check out their safety checklist here by creating simple habits to help keep your child (children) safe.

With the heat rising and everyone out and about please remember to look before you lock your car. Please make sure your child is never left alone in a car. A 100-degree temperature outside can cause the inside of your vehicle to reach 170 degrees.

Please read this safety checklist to make sure your child (children) is/are never left alone in a car and make sure children can’t get into a parked car.

This is helpful information. Mostly pretty obvious but some maybe not. Have kids at home? Park your cars in the garage? It probably doesn't occur to lock the car in the garage, but kids are curious and also like to play in the car. Lock the cars and hid the keys. A lot of us have a hook by the garage door to save time coming and going. Locking and securing the keys could also be a good anti-theft move. We don't have kids--well we do, and they have kids, so I've passed this along. I used to always lock the cars in the garage, but I quit and don't know why.

Thank you for these tips for everyone. I got used to putting my purse in the backseat floor behind me when driving. This also helps you stay off your phone, which means leave your phone in your purse, so you don't get distracted.
