Earlier this month, traffic engineers completed the first controlled traffic switch on Gaston Road for the southern segment between Greenbusch up to the Grayson Lakes subdivision. Motorists are now driving on what will eventually become the two northbound lanes of traffic.
This allowed the contractor to immediately begin demolition on the old lanes to prepare the work on the other side, for what will become the two southbound lanes of traffic. The contractors are operating on a scheduled completion date this October for the entire Gaston Road project from Greenbusch to Katy Flewellen Road. Completion of this segment will then allow for the improvements to begin on Katy Flewellen, west towards the Spring Green roundabout. The commissioner's office is also coordinating with the city of Katy for their work on building the extension of Gaston Road on the short segment that will connect to S. Firethorne at Spring Green Blvd.
"This project has overcome a lot of setbacks with unmarked utilities and the important public safety work that comes with living with an ever-present network of pipelines through our region. Special thanks goes to the residents and business owners who are impacted by the construction, temporary crossings, etc. that accompany every mobility project. The end results will soon be worth it and the community thanks you for your perseverance!" ~
