Summer 2022 Teen Police AcademyConstable Ted Heap's popular Teen Police Academy is back and better than ever! Precinct 5 deputies have been giving these teen cadets a behind-the-scenes look at their department this week. More than 20 kids signed up for the return of this free summer program. They have learned about everything from what equipment each of their deputy carries to how difficult it can be to handcuff a combative suspect. They've also learned about how Constable Heap's Animal Crimes Unit works to protect those who don't have a voice. They're just two days into the week-long academy and they've already gotten up-close visits with their Strategic Response and K-9 Units, and seen how drones are an important tool to track down fleeing suspects and locate missing children and adults.
