Katy ISD District of Innovation​Katy ISD is seeking to renew the "District of Innovation" state designation as well as include additional exemptions, and they need feedback from the community! Visit here to review the full Katy ISD Local Innovation Plan and submit feedback now through January 18.What is a "District of Innovation"?House Bill 1842, passed by the 84th Legislature, provides local school districts the flexibility to obtain exemptions from certain provisions in the Texas Education Code that are currently available to open enrollment charter schools. The Katy ISD Board of Trustees, approved the District's first District of Innovation/Local Innovation Plan with a unanimous vote at their January 2017 meeting. The plan reflected exemptions for the school start date, teacher certification and designated campus behavior coordinators.The 2022 proposed plan includes the previous three exemptions; while adding exemptions for operation of minutes, student suspension, attendance for class credit or final grade, excused absences (related to college visits) and compulsory attendance.They would like their community's feedback on Katy ISD's Proposed 2022 District of Innovation Plan before it is presented to the Board of Trustees next month (January 2022) for review and approval.
