Park Burglars Caught In The Act

Deputies from Constable Ted Heap's Office recently arrested two men suspected of breaking into cars in Harris County parks and using their victim's stolen credit cards to ring up thousands of dollars in fraudulent purchases.
Roosevelt Valentine, 25, and Temoine Tapp, 22, were arrested in December when deputies caught them with a bag of tools stolen from a vehicle in Terry Hershey park earlier in the day. Investigators from Constable Heap's office later identified the two suspects as the same two who used credit cards stolen from a 64-year-old man's car in Fiorenza Park four days earlier.

Both suspects have lengthy criminal histories as well as outstanding warrants from other agencies. Valentine now faces charges of theft and credit card abuse. Tapp is also charged with credit card abuse. #constabletedheap #yourconstable

Great job Constable Heap's office!!! Hope these criminals stay put away for a long time and not back on the streets with a slap on the hand. They need to learn a lesson.

I'm sure the Harris County DA Kim Ogg will leave them in the slammer for at least two hours before releasing them with no bail on their own recognizance.

Thanks to HC constables for doing their best!

Thankful they've been caught, but also curious why someone would leave a credit card in their car; perhaps in a pocket ont he back of their phone, and they left the phone in their car? It does seem odd.

@gailc : Gail, I hear you. Here's a question. Why do so many women (including at least one I know pretty well), think it is safe to leave their purse with credit cards, dr license, checkbook, etc. in the trunk of their car while they go off doing something--hiking and such--out of the view of the car? And to give equal time, the same applies to men leaving briefcases, laptop computers, expensive cameras, and in one case I'm familiar with, a gun, in their car trunks while they go into a restaurant.

Don't leave anything in your car that you're not OK with losing to a criminal. Assume that someone is watching as your leave your car.

@BowsKaty : I completely agree. It's one of the reasons my husband won't stay in certain cities and in some cases, certain chains in TX and AR. The hotels in the city have agreed they won't allow guns to be brought into their hotels. My husband won't leave his gun in the car for more than a very short time. and by all means, it's locked tight. It would take a professional a bit of hassle to obtain it. They're more likely to move on to one that's easily accessible.
Yes, purses and briefcases left in cars simply isn't wise these days. leave what isn't convenient to carry with you, at home. This convo reminds me I should probably clean out my glove box to be sure I'm not leaving anything of value sitting in there.
Have a good weekend. Stay warm.
