Hydrant Flushing in the City of Katy

Loading Image...

The City of Katy Water Department will be flushing hydrants Monday and Tuesday, November 1st and 2nd. The hydrant flushing will take place between 7 am. and 4 pm. The flushing may cause low water pressure as well as some discoloration of water, but this does not represent a health hazard. If you experience discolored water, run the cold water in all your faucets for approximately 5-10 minutes or open the outside faucet closest to your water meter for several minutes before using the water. However, customers are cautioned to determine if the water is clear before washing clothes (or any other processing) as staining may occur.

Note: If laundry becomes stained, do not put laundry in the dryer. Rewash clothes immediately using detergent and add a rust remover. Most rust removers can also be used on stained fixtures. If water pressure or water volume seems to be low after hydrant flushing has been completed, check faucet screens (aerator) for trapped particles/sediment.

The City of Katy cannot be responsible for any damages incurred as a result of this activity. The flushing program is necessary to maintain a good water supply for both firefighting and domestic consumption which is a necessary and normal maintenance function of our water supply as required by the Department of Environmental Protection.
