Domestic Violence Awareness from the Fort Bend County Sheriff’s Office

October ushers in a welcome relief from the hot summer temperatures. But it also brings heightened awareness of Domestic Violence.

The Fort Bend County Sheriff's Office hopes that such awareness within the community will foster encouragement for those facing Domestic Violence dangers to seek the help they need.

“Since 1981, the month of October has been set aside as a time for us to recognize the dangers and solitude victims of family violence face within their own homes on a daily basis,” said Fort Bend County Sheriff Eric Fagan. “The crime of Domestic Violence has been known to be under-reported throughout American communities. It shouldn’t be that way.”

The FBCSO and law enforcement agencies nationwide partner with many outreach programs to help victims of Domestic Violence. These outreach programs help victims cope with the myriad of issues they endure constantly.
As part of Domestic Violence Awareness Month, the Sheriff’s Office has posted an exhibit with 11 purple crosses in their administration building lobby. The color purple signifies this cause, and the crosses represent the 11 lives lost to Domestic Violence in Fort Bend County since January 2020. The Sheriff’s Office administration building is awash in purple at night to shine a proverbial light on this cause.

“We ask the public as they drive by our building to take the time to learn about this cause,” Sheriff Fagan said. “Our team observes Domestic Violence Awareness Month daily, but even more so this time of year.”

For additional state and local resource information, contact the FBCSO Victim Liaison at 281-341-4650. The public is reminded to call 911 when faced with an immediate need for emergency assistance.
