Game Room Raid Finds Guns, Drugs, Stolen Cars
Deputies from Constable Ted Heap’s Office, working with law enforcement partners HPD, HCSO, Katy PD and DPS, arrested three suspects and seized dozens of guns, stolen vehicles and illegal drugs in a joint game room raid in Southwest Houston. The operation concludes a year-long, multiagency investigation.
Constable Heap’s Narcotics Units executed four search warrants on Thursday, September 23, at two game rooms in the 6700 block of Synott and the 11200 block of Beechnut, one home in the 13200 block of Barranca and a storage unit in the 7000 block of Synott. Inside those facilities, deputies discovered 42 illegal firearms and 1.6 pounds of crystal meth along with cocaine, heroin and marijuana. 14 stolen vehicles were also recovered, including cars, trailers and ATVs.
Three suspects were arrested without incident on felony drug and drug trafficking charges. Approximately 60 illegal gaming machines were also seized in the operation.
Game rooms are not just illegal in Texas. They and their customers can be targets for other types of crime due to large amounts of cash on hand and patrons who are frequently elderly. In addition, operators of these establishments are often reluctant to report crimes to the proper authorities due to the illegal nature of their businesses.
