The City of Katy’s history from the Katy Heritage Society
Katy was well known for saloons in the early 1900s. Prohibition allowed a few enterprising locals to supplement their income with successful distillers.
A well known distillery was operated near where the old Theo Lammert house was. (East side of Cane Island Creek at First St.) It was a little west of where Tha Roux is now.
The operator would hide the bottles in the creek. Up until as recent as 10 years ago, there was still a bit of moonshine in the area. In the last 20 years one of the locals passed away from methanol poisoning from a batch that was too strong.
