April 2021 is Sexual Assault Awareness Month
In honor of Sexual Assault Awareness Month and Child Sexual Abuse Prevention Month, Mayor Bill Hastings and Katy City Council passed a City Ordinance increasing restrictions for registered sex offenders and their ability to live or rent near current school campuses, parks, pools, registered childcare centers, and public-school bus stop.
This public safety legislation will create a larger buffer zone around places where children gather and will serve as an additional tool for the city’s law enforcement agencies to protect this community.
Council also proclaimed April 28, 2021, as "Denim Day" in Katy. This day has become an international symbol of the anti-victim blaming movement. They urged everyone to wear jeans on this day to help communicate the message that "there is no excuse and there is never an invitation to rape.
