September is National Preparedness Month

Loading Image...

Launched in 2004, National Preparedness Month (NPM) is FEMA’s national annual preparedness outreach. NPM is managed and sponsored by FEMA’s Ready Campaign. The Ready Campaign, in conjunction with the Ad Council, aims to educate and empower Americans during NPM and throughout the year to prepare for and respond to all types of emergencies, including natural disasters and potential terrorist attacks. National Preparedness Month culminates on September 30th with National Preparedness Day, the national day of action.

National Preparedness Month is recognized each September to promote family and community disaster planning now and throughout the year. As our nation continues to respond to COVID19, there is no better time to be involved this September. It is a great time to talk with your friends and family about how you will communicate before, during, and after a disaster.

This is great information to know. Hopefully everyone learned a little something from preparing for Hurricane Laura.
It shows just why we should be prepared. It could have shifted our way instead of to Lake Charles. Hope many of them there were prepared.
This speaks not only for hurricanes and weather but in general...life things, wills, life ins, fire escapes, flat tires, emergency kits. Being prepared makes things a tiny bit easier to deal with.

At the same time you are preparing be sure to change air filters and smoke alarm batteries. Sometimes we forget to do these two things. The smoke alarm batteries will start chiming when battery is low but don't wait till it's the middle of the night to let them keep you awake.

@Fiona : regarding air filters, use the cheap ones. The expensive one cause the motor to overwork. Ask any expert.

Always the cheap ones!!! And we don't use the ones that are scented. Those are bad to use as well. As per an air conditioning expert.
