Harris County Sheriff's Office Investigators originally charged Luis Angel Pacheco (08/29/1991) with injury to a child, but charges are expected to be upgraded now with the child's death.

According to reports from HCSO, on Monday, February 25, 2019, EMS personnel transferred the infant from a residence in the 16600 block of Gaeldom drive in west Harris County to Texas Children's Hospital West Campus in Katy.

Shortly after examining the child, doctors alerted the Sheriff's Office that the injuries on the child were inconsistent with the father's statement to them. The child had numerous blunt force injuries to his skull and other blunt force injuries on his stomach and groin area.

HCSO Investigator J. Garcia and lead investigator Harris County Precinct 5 Deputy Investigator M. Puente responded to the hospital.

According to Pacheco's statement, he was attempting to change his son's diaper when the child began to cry. He was trying to calm him down by holding him and change the diaper on the infant at the same time. While he was walking from one to another, he dropped the child on the concrete floor. Pacheco said he noticed the injury on the child's head but did not make his wife aware of the injury. The child's mother was in another part of the home during the incident. After a few hours the child's breathing became labored, so the parents called 9-1-1.

Pacheco could not explain the other injuries to the child or how they occurred.

Investigators believed he was responsible for the injuries, so Pacheco was subsequently arrested, charged with Injury to a Child (Serious Bodily Injury) and held in the Harris County Jail on a $250,000 bond.

The investigation is ongoing.

This breaks my heart. I just can not understand the mind set of someone that could harm a child. A newborn.
