19-year-old Deveriq Yell from Katy has been charged with Aggravated Kidnapping after he allegedly held a female Lyft driver at gunpoint for several hours, stealing money out of her bank account, property from her home and taking her vehicle.
According to court documents, on January 27, 2019, Deveriq Yell had requested a ride through Lyft and was picked up by the victim. Yell got into the backseat of the vehicle and the victim drove him to a remote location near Brookshire in Waller County. Once there, Yell grabbed the victim and demanded she move to the passenger side of the vehicle. He also told her not look at him or else he would shoot her. Once she agreed, her face was covered with a sweater. Yell then drove them to a gas station, where he demanded her debit/credit card PIN and withdrew $100 of her money from the ATM. He then drove the victim to her house and stole property, including a cellphone and TV. Before leaving, Yell reportedly threatened the victim's life again if she were to call the police.
The document said investigators were able to identify Yell from surveillance video captured during the time of the ATM transactions and while he was driving the victim's vehicle.
He was arrested with the car in his possession. He was with another male at the time. Yell told investigators he had purchased the vehicle from a man named Jose near the Galleria area.
Yell is being held on $100,000 bond.
